I haven't talked with anyone who can put their finger on what the love a grandparent has for grandchildren other than it's different. Grandparents love their own children but these little grandchildren just seem to worm there little way straight to our hearts. It's a feeling I can only say that warms my heart inside out but my own children did that to. I ask my own grandkids and here are some of the answers I got.

Grandparents are important to the family foundation. With parents having to work longer hours or even work two jobs or a single parent trying to make ends meet, they need help from time to time. Grandparents understand the difficulties of trying to make a living and they understand how hard it is to find a proper place for children to stay while they work. This is where a lot of grandparents step up and help take care of their grandchildren so they can still be in a familiar household even though the parents are at work.

Being a grandparent is an honor that some people never experience but one that should be taken lightly. I have never experienced anything anywhere close to it. Seeing those little eyes look at you like you are the greatest person on the face of this earth is like nothing I can explain to anyone who is not a grandparent. Being a great grandparent is something I haven't had to try at because it just comes natural so telling anyone how to be one will take some thought but I will try.

Being a grandparent means you gotta be fun.Today we are going to talk about how to be a fun grandparent or at least the ways I try to be a fun grandparent. Most of the time it isn't hard for me because I just try to get down to their level just like a was just a little person like them. (You really can learn a lot just by sitting down on the floor with them and listening) You may be wondering now,how you are going to get up,but don't fuse about it you will get up. I always try to let the floor thing be a long time play session and then we all take a nap. Being a baby boomer myself I still consider myself in pretty good shape physically but nothing compared to a toddler but I can play whatever they choose for a while. I am going to list some things that me and my grandchildren love to play together and even though they think their Granny and Papaw are crazy they never fail to have fun.

Have you ever thought about why your grandparents are so important to you? If you haven't then you should. Most grandparents go out of their way to make grandchildren feel unique. Maybe it's because their lives are at a point they have more time or maybe they are just wiser and know how important it is. Who else do you spend time with that thinks you are more special than everyone. Grandparents can give this feeling to their grandchildren if they have one or twenty. So if you are in need of feeling special just plan a trip to Nana's house, Granny's house or Papaw's house, whatever you choose to call them is right.

With snow and rain keeping many of us grandparents and grandchildren inside longer than normal this winter, it's definitely a cause for creative "thinking outside the box" to keep our often energetic grandkids busy and engaged if they are visiting for a long period of time or if we are regularly involved in babysitting the grandchildren (just call me granny nanny). Board games, computer games, and fun Wii games for grand kids and us seniors who love them are great. Reading lots and lots of books is wonderful as well. But here's one I hadn't tried in a while and maybe you haven't either.

What Are the Legal Rights of Grandparents to See Their Grandchildren?

It is my understanding that every state now has some form of grandparents visitation rights. With what I have read it still seems to be very different in every state because the judges that hear these cases interpret them all differently. As far as I can tell this is the only way they can be done because they are all different. Any time visitation is granted it must be proven that it is in the best interest of the child and this burden of proof lies with the grandparents. Having a record of this relationship can help when you go into court to help you prove that there was one. It may seem weird to make a list of the times you spent with them or things you have done together but it may be a necessary one to help you establish your relationship to the courts. keeping these records can be as simple as keeping a day journal and recording things as they happen or have happened in the past as you remember them.

Well life throws us curves and we as grandparents know how to do what has to be done to make things right. Even if you are a baby boomer now and retired what if your grandchildren needed A place to live. If for some reason your grandchildren needed a place to stay, if the child's parents have passed away or are in jail, rehab or prison they still need a caring place to live with people who love them.

If you are a grandparent you need to ask yourself if you really understand the importance of spending time with them. Your grandchildren are only little once and the best time to bond with them is while they are small. I can't rally explain the love I have for my grandchildren. I was listening to a talk show the other day and a grandmother was saying how much she loved her grandchildren and they ask her if she loved her children or grandchildren more. (which I believe to be something unfair to ask anyone) She answered the way I would have and said that she didn't love either anymore than the other but grandchildren are just different because we enjoy them in a different way. We understand more at this time in our lives and are a lot more laid back. The responsibility just isn't the same unless you are grandparents raising grandchildren.
